Bennett’s Newborn Photos

Newborn photo shoots can be stressful for the whole family. Getting yourself ready is a task in itself with a newborn and then add in getting other children ready and happy to cooperate. It can be quite exhausting, but they are by far worth it, and our photographer always makes us a little more at ease with flexibility and a reshoot guarantee. We have had our family photos done by Wonderlight Photography at least once a year, starting with Grayson’s newborn photos back in January 2016. As much as I like to try new things and explore new people, when it comes to photographers, hair, nails, etc…I am pretty loyal to my people. If I like you and you do a good job, then I will use you year after year. Especially when it comes down to someone knowing you and your style, and what you like. When you’ve got a good thing going, you stick with it, and Emilie with Wonderlight always delivers for our family.

Last newborn shoot we had, I wore a black top and jeans, and honestly I kind of regret it. Although I LOVE black, it can come across a little harsh in photos, especially when you are aiming for sweet newborn photos. At the time, I think I was aiming for whatever fit, was convenient, and somewhat flattering. This time I tried to plan ahead a bit better and atleast knew what color scheme I was going for. Initially I thought I wanted to go neutrals with me in white or ivory, but then, just like B’s nursery, it took a drastic turn and we went bold and colorful 🙂 Here are just a few of my favorites from Bennett’s newborn session.

What We Wore

TIPS for family photo shoots:

  • If you are nursing, wear something nursing friendly so if you need to nurse mid-session, it’s easy. Nursing/feeding the infant can help them fall asleep for those adorable, peaceful sleepy newborn photos.
  • Plan ahead: Easier said than done and I am the world’s worst procrastinator, but planning everyone’s outfits ahead of time is very helpful. Lay them out so you can visualize what the shoot will look like and what color scheme you are going for.
  • Try to relax and let the photographer lead. Another one that is easier said than done, but usually works in your favor. HAVE FUN!
  • Try not to rush. We all know that working with kids always feels like working on borrowed time, but kids can sense it when you are stressed and rushed. A good photographer won’t rush you either and will stay until you get the shots you really want.
