Overcoming the Excuses

So, I’ve admitted it before, I am addicted to working out and I would do it all day long if someone would pay me to or my husband would allow me to, which is highly unlikely.  But obviously this isn’t the case everyday.  I know I am probably in the minority here, but it is a daily priority, although, there are days where I am just TIRED, or weeks where I am sick, or sore, or burnt out, whatever it may be…and I just don’t get to each every single day.  Routines are GREAT, but we also have to remember that it is okay to break our routines at time and take care of ourselves and listen to our bodies, because they know best.  However, I try not to let this become a pattern and it’s important for me to stay disciplined and get back to my routine.

So, I am sharing with you some things that get me motivated or keep me dedicated on the regular.

  1. SIGN UP for class the night before.  If it’s possible, commit yourself early.  Even if you can’t sign up ahead of time, have a buddy that you can be accountable to.
  2. Pack your gym bag the night before.  Whether you are working out early in the morning and after work.  I always try to have a gym bag in my car for those times that I might get done with work early or a patient cancels and I am able to go for a run or sneak a class in.  Be spontaneous with your workouts – even go for a brisk walk to get it in some days.
  3. Buy new workout clothes that you feel good in.  This could be left unsaid for me, because as you all know, I love my fitness fashion about as much as my regular clothes.  Some of my favorites:  lululemon, Athleta, BeyondYoga, Alo.
  4. GET OUTSIDE! Take advantage of this weather – even when it is sprinkling outside, if it isn’t in the 40s or the 90s, I am happy to get my sweat on outside.  Just do it.  You won’t regret it.  But maybe take your Claritin first (that’s the only downside!)
  5. Try the free classes.  Get out of your comfort zone – there is nothing to lose.
  6. Change it up.  I am a huge fan of a routine and staying disciplined to a program.  There are definitely rewards for sticking to a program, but I also think it’s great to have some variety in your training.  This way your body doesn’t get burnt out and you don’t get bored.
  7. Community. Find your people and be accountable for one another.  Make it about fun and friendship, not just fitness.  Some of my best friends are people that I work out with.

  8. At Home Videos.  Can’t get to classes? or away from the kids? or away from the house? Or travel a lot? Try a quick video you can do at the house.  Here are some great ideas to try at home to get it done in your own time:
