Yes….it took me a few days to recover from our busy weekend in ATL and to actually sit down and write a post. To say we had fun would probably be an understatement, but so would saying I’m freaking tired. These Poe boys are a blast but they are utterly exhausting, especially when we choose to go, go, go on the weekends. I know sometimes we do it to ourselves, but also sometimes you just gotta keep them busy and run out that energy, which ALSO means us running after them in some capacity. We would have really enjoyed a relaxing weekend at home this weekend, but family time is super important to us. We never get true quality time with some of them over the holidays or when they are visiting and making the rounds, so sometimes it’s good to travel and see them.
My sister and Nelson’s step-brother both live in ATL now and before we had kids, we actually visited ATL a decent amount. We loved to go for the weekend, usually for a concert and a fun night dinner out, so I even though this stay was a little different, I was looking forward to a good ATL weekend.
Experiencing some of our favorite cities with our kids now is quite an experience, but we wouldn’t have it any other way (as long as we get weekends away sans kids often…it’s just necessary!)
We left early on Friday so that the boys could nap on the drive and stopped at LegoLand on the way into town to do something fun with the boys (and hopefully wear them out…). In all honesty, I should have dropped the boys and Nelson off at LegoLand while momma went shopping around Phipps Plaza, but instead I climbed through tunnels, rode some toddler rides, and played with legos for a few hours. Oh, the things you never imagined yourself doing.
LEGOLAND is located in Phipps Plaza in Buckhead and was a lot of fun. The boys could have been entertained in there for hours. It basically felt like a miniature Children’s Museum, obviously with a concentration on LEGOS. They had a couple of rides, a play place, and tons of exhibits to either observe or build with LEGOS. My boys, at ages 3 and 19 months, may have been a little too young to fully enjoy all that it had to offer, but it kept them busy and they had a blast. It was fun to experience this with them, but seriously, if we do this again, I may drop them off with their Dad and go shopping in the many wonderful stores that Phipps Plaza has to offer!
For dinner on Friday night, we got a sitter for the kiddos and headed to JCT Kitchen & Bar. They have tons of great outdoor seating options but by the time we were eating dinner it was dark outside, so I didn’t go out of my way to get any good food pics. But TRUST ME, when I say that EVERY SINGLE THING I tried was absolutely delicious! Definitely one of my new favorite Atlanta restaurants. They describe their menu as refined comfort food, which is very accurate. My favorites were: Maplebrook Farms Burrata, Sweet Corn Soup, Sweet Corn & Goat Cheese Agnolotti and the Shrimp & Grits.

Saturday, we took the kiddos to the Georgia Aquarium. I had taken Crawford before, but Nelson and Grayson hadn’t been so we thought it would be a fun activity for us to do as a family, and with the boys’ cousins. Plus the Georgia Aquarium is worth going to more than once. I LOVE aquariums and am seriously at awe myself at some of these creatures each time we go, and the dolphin show is amazing! Experiencing these kinds of activities through the eyes of our kids and feeling their sense of wonder and amazement in truly a gift.

On Saturday night, we went to Umi in Buckhead, a phenomenal modern Japanese restaurant with excellent sushi. We ordered TONS of different things, but my favorites were: Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Madai Carpaccio, Rock Shrimp Tempura, Black Cod Misoyaki, the American Tuna Roll, and Kobe Beef Nigiri. I also got a Paloma cocktail that was really tasty!

If only we had stopped to ask a stranger to take a picture of all 4 of us…maybe next time!
Overall, we had SUCH a great time in ATL and even though traveling anywhere with these kiddos is utterly exhausting, it is definitely worth it. We will see family soon for the holidays here in Greenville, but I definitely look forward to making the trip to ATL for some more quality time with them.
