Kickin’ it in Kiawah

We had a long weekend / short beach vacation to Kiawah Island with some of our best friends.  One would argue that a vacation with kids isn't truly a vacation, it is a trip, and I would AGREE, for sure, but we had the BEST trip with these little ones.  We had a blast and made many memories!  We were also able to keep our sanity by getting a babysitter for some adult time as well! That definitely helped.

We stayed in a condo in Kiawah, so had easy access to all that Kiawah has to offer – we rented bikes, went to the beach, played in the park, and lounged by the pool.

1st things 1st…we jumped on the bikes and rode to The Market at Town Center for ice cream and beers (for the adults) while we waited on our friends!

Vacay Every Day Tee (wish they made this tee in adult sizes)

For our 1st night, we took the kids to a casual dinner at Nacho Mama's at Bohicket Marina on Seabrook Island.  The marina has tons of restaurant options, outdoor seating, and great views. Definitely a good start to our weekend.

FRIDAY morning:  TO THE BEACH!

My kids have been to the beach many times, but this was the first time both of them were just happy to play and play until they got tired.  The beach can be an ordeal with ALL the toys and equipment you have to haul out there, but it is free, unlimited entertainment at its best.  These kids had the best time chasing seagulls, building sand castles, and jumping waves.

This dump truck was a hit on the beach! (thanks to my friend, Rhea, and her strong Amazon prime relationship)

While the kids napped, the adults took a day trip to The Sanctuary for lunch and a few Miami Vices poolside 😉

We went to The Atlantic Room at the Ocean Course for dinner and enjoyed the craziest thunderstorm while dining on the veranda.

Wearing:  One of my favorite Summer rompers!

At dinner, we had this great bottle of Albariño wine.  I had never had this type of white wine, but if you like Pinot Grigio, give it a shot, it is delicious!  Crisp and refreshing, with a little more flavor.

Saturday, we headed to breakfast at The Market at Town Center with the kiddos.

Naturally, after breakfast, we headed back to the beach.  It really is so amazing the instant, pure joy in these kiddo's faces as their feet hit the sand and their toes dip in the ocean.

And this is the face you will get when you take a 3 year old out of the ocean and try to get him to take a family photo.  Hey, we are all looking at the camera…so, basically a win, right?! I'll take it.

A little afternoon pool time.  Thanks to ISR lessons, G is a fish! He loves to swim…and will typically throw a raging fit when you pull him out of the water…

For dinner on Saturday night, we headed into John's Island to one of our Charleston faves, Wild Olive.  If you have been to an Italian restaurant with me, you know that if Bolognese is on the menu, I will probably end up ordering it.  I kind of consider myself a connoisseur and Wild Olive has one of the best bolognese dishes in Charleston.

Sunday morning, we headed out of town, but 1st stopped for brunch at Crave Smokehouse on John's Island.  Situated right next to KAVA coffee shop, this little smokehouse is so unassuming on the side of the road, but you MUST stop! It exceeded our expectations in every way.  The service was great and the food was amazing! It was so good (and we were in hopes of preventing in toddler meltdowns before we hit the road) that I didn't get a single picture of our food, but trust me, it was delicious!

Until next time, Kiawah!

We may not be well-rested, but we had the best time with the best of friends!  So thankful for a few days away together!
