Friday afternoon, my husband and I are sitting on the couch with the boys, (pretty exhausted after he had been gone all week, and then we had taken the boys to swim lessons and ice cream afterwards…), and I look to him and say, “So, should I do that triathlon tomorrow?” He looks back at me and says, “Sure, why not…if you want to.” So, right then and there, I decided, I wanted to. Literally, at 5pm, when registration closed at 5:30pm. That’s all that truly mattered (as selfish as that sounds), well that and the fact that he supported me, and was willing to wake himself and our boys up early on a Saturday morning to come cheer me on. It doesn’t matter that I had not trained in the least bit, or that I might embarrass myself, or that I might come in last. To be honest, I think training for one of these and still doing those things is what I am the most fearful of. But honestly, if we don’t TRY things, we will NEVER know. We will never know physically what we are capable of and we may never truly test ourselves and discover our strengths physically and mentally. Some strengths we were never aware of.
Like everyone, I have insecurities and lack confidence in some areas (like the bike in this instance!), but I also believe in myself and know that I can do anything I set my mind to. We all can! I don’t strive to be perfect or even the best at anything these days, but I do strive to be MY best, for myself and for my family. I know that it is OK to fail, because that is where we learn the most about ourselves and that is where we have room to grow.
Thankfully, I didn’t drown in the pool or crash my bike (shocker). And I finished the triathlon with a smile on my face. Honestly, besides a few grueling hills, I think I was smiling most of the race. Because I signed up so late, I didn’t allow myself to build expectations for myself or set any goals or anything that I normally would do, so I was simply just doing this for me. To finish the race. I was pleased with my performance and it definitely gave me an “itch” to do another one. So, I have actually already signed up for the Greenville Triathlon on August 13th, and plan to attempt to train as much as my time will allow. Maybe I will perform better, but maybe I won’t. However, I will have fun!
How G really felt about being out in the heat all morning long…
I am so thankful for my sweet and supportive family cheering me on the entire race! Seeing them at the transitions kept me pushing strong throughout the race all the way to the finish!
Bonus! The triathlon this weekend gave us an excuse to go out and celebrate on Saturday evening. We went to one of our favorites, The Anchorage, for drinks and dinner. One of my favorite things about the Anchorage is their Seasonal Menu! It’s like going to a whole new restaurant with new options! This menu did not disappoint. (And their beautiful mural never gets old!)
Their bartenders are some of the best in the city and always aim to please. I am pretty picky with liquor drinks, but they always seem to come up with a yummy concoction based on my likes. I made it easy on them Saturday night and had a simple Margarita, but it was super refreshing with the perfect blend of flavors (not your typical Margarita).
If there is a beet salad on the menu, I have to get it. Their beets are so fresh and flavorful!

Completing a triathlon calls for dessert, right!?! This Tiramisu was also not your basic tiramisu. So creamy and delicious!
What I wore: 1st of all, I have never been so in love with an Old Navy item in my life. I cannot say enough good things about these jeans. They feel and look nicer than many of my designer jeans, and I reach for them over my white Mother and AG jeans every time lately! They are that good! AND they are 40% off right now with code: JULY, so hurry, because they will sell out!! They have restocked them multiple times this Summer and they never go on sale in the stores, I am wearing my normal Size 4.

I am also obsessed with this new ruffle-top from J.Crew. I want all the colors! So cute and easy to wear with jeans or shorts!
HAPPY MONDAY! Make it a good one!
