Old Edwards

Last week we celebrated our 8th anniversary at Old Edwards Inn in the Highlands.  I LOVE surprises and it works against my favor most of the time, because I build up these crazy expectations in my head.  Seriously, it’s a problem…most of the time they are unrealistic, but it’s like I cannot control it, but thats a whole other post.  I’ve thrown out ALOT of hints to my husband over the past year or so how I would love to stay at Old Edwards Inn, and about a week before our Anniversary he sprung the Surprise on me, so he did a good job!

Old Edwards Inn sits in the heart of downtown Highlands, just steps away from some great shops and restaurants.  We were greeted with a champagne welcome and the staff were graciously helpful and so polite the entire stay.

Unfortunately, it rained the ENTIRE time we were there, but we did not let that spoil our time and honestly took it as a sign to just freakin’ chill.  We have a tendency to go, go, go and not relax on vacation, so the rain definitely gave us an excuse to stay indoors more than we normally would…and their exquisite spa didn’t hurt either.  Old Edwards Inn has a top ranked spa and it did not disappoint.  I literally could have stayed there ALL day long, and we almost did on Thursday afternoon.

Have you ever stayed in a place with complimentary Dove Bars at your convenience, right down the hall from your room!?!  I didn’t even know that I liked Dove Bars…but I do now!

We arrived in Highlands on Wednesday, and first things first…spa, duh.  I got a 50 minute facial which was heavenly.  I normally don’t choose to do facials, but I know that they are good for your skin and all that, so I figured, why not get one!?  I am now a huge fan (Sorry, Nelson and our bank account).

And fortunately, I was able to stay down there and get ready for dinner using their amazing 14 head shower.  The picture does not do this shower justice.  My feelings:  Who needs a shower in their room when they could just stay down in the spa and get ready in this luxury!? And can someone build this for me in our next home?

Before dinner, we grabbed drinks at Cyprus.  We sat outside at the covered bar since it was pouring rain, but they had the cutest outdoor seating.  I had a delicious Raspberry Mojito.

For dinner, we headed back to Old Edwards Inn to Madison’s Restaurant and Wine Garden.  We had a phenomenal meal with excellent service from the moment we sat down.

On Thursday morning we grabbed a quick breakfast from Mountain Fresh Grocery, right down the street from the Old Edwards Inn.

Then, we headed to the spa where Nelson and I had a couples massage, followed by lunch on the Terrace in the spa, and lounging for hours the remainder of the afternoon.  It is usually so difficult of us to sit still, but we had the most relaxing afternoon.  Nelson even took a nice long nap, which is incredibly rare for him.

I started For the Love by Jen Hatmaker and loved it from page 1.  Such a good read!

I’m pretty sure we could have never left the property of Old Edwards and eaten at Madison’s for every single meal, but we love variety and trying new places, so we ventured out into the town in the rain.

We didn’t have dinner reservations on Thursday night until 8:30pm, so we hopped around for a few appetizers and pre-dinner drinks.  We started at Wolfgang’s with a glass of wine and Fried Brie.

Then we headed back to Cyprus to grab another one of their delicious mojitos and their appetizer special, Shrimp Spring Roll.  This time we sat at the indoor bar overlooking the kitchen and were able to watch the chef put on a show.  The restaurant offers international cuisine and it amazes me how they could do so many dishes so well.  The Spring Roll was so incredible.

We finished the night with dinner at a fantastic Italian restaurant, Paoletti’s.

Before we headed out on Friday, we had one last meal at Madison’s.  One last gluttonous getaway dish…a juicy and delicious burger!

Overall, our stay and anniversary celebration at Old Edwards Inn was amazing and I would highly recommend it. We thoroughly believe in making time away together a priority, not only for us to rest, relax, and reset, but it’s so great for our marriage as well.  I am so thankful for the time away and even more thankful to have come back on a Friday and have the long Labor Day weekend to spend with the boys!

September Slip-Away & Save

It’s a great time to get away, as Old Edwards is offering an amazing deal in September.  We were only a week shy of getting this deal and it hurt a little bit to even read about it, but it’s so good I had to share.  If you have the flexibility to get away during the week, you can get a 2-night stay, 2 50-minute spa treatments, and a 3-course meal at Madison’s for less than $500 / night.  Ridiculous deal! Only wish we would have known about it before we booked the last week in August..haha…figures!  Check out their September deal here!
